Our Mission
Radio succeeds when it respects the listener, values personality, and understands that music is more than content — it's memory. That belief has guided Bill Hennes through every phase of his career, and it drives every song we play on Today's Hottest Hits.

The person behind the station

"Radio succeeds when it respects the listener, values personality, and understands music as more than just content — it's memory."
Bill Hennes
Founder & Station Director
Pompano Beach, FL
Bill Hennes is one of American radio's most accomplished figures — an air talent, program director, national consultant, and digital broadcasting pioneer. Known early in his career as the high-energy "Wild Willy," he learned the craft behind the microphone before transitioning into programming leadership, where his impact would be felt at legendary stations from Detroit to Chicago to Philadelphia. He later founded Bill Hennes & Associates, consulting stations across multiple formats, and held leadership roles at Westwood One. Today he brings more than six decades of broadcasting wisdom to Today's Hottest Hits, the digital radio network he founded in Pompano Beach, FL.
Our Journey
From bedroom broadcast to global station
- 1960
Building Radio From the Bedroom
Long before his first commercial shift, Bill was already programming — building a home studio with a Bogen mixer, two turntables, and an Electro-Voice mic. Pure curiosity and a love of music.
- Age 15
WXYZ Detroit — The Break
Bill entered a contest run by legendary WXYZ night jock Mickey Shorr. His deep musical knowledge so impressed Shorr that he was put to work meeting record reps — an extraordinary responsibility for a teenager. He also held cue cards on TV for Soupy Sales and George Hunter.
- Early Career
"Wild Willy" — Midwest Circuit
As "Wild Willy," Bill honed his on-air craft at WBRB Mt. Clemens, WKAN Kankakee, WJEF Grand Rapids, WIBM Jackson, WTRX and WTAC Flint, and WKLO Louisville — developing the instincts for pacing, music flow, and audience connection that would define his career.
- 1960s–70s
Meeting Mike Joseph & Programming Fundamentals
An encounter with Mike Joseph — one of the architects of modern Top-40 radio — reinforced that great radio is never accidental. Tight execution, consistency, and relentless focus on the listener became the foundation of everything Bill built.
- 1970s
WNHC New Haven — First PD Role
The transition from performer to architect began at WNHC in New Haven, CT — thinking not just about a single shift, but about an entire station's sound, identity, and competitive position.
- Peak Years
CKLW "The Big 8" — Defining an Era
As Program Director of CKLW in Windsor/Detroit — one of the most powerful Top-40 signals in North America — Bill helped set the standard for disciplined hit radio. His programming leadership extended to WKLO Louisville, WNDE Indianapolis, WIFI Philadelphia, WMAQ/WKQX Chicago, WQXI Atlanta, WAPE Jacksonville, WFLZ Tampa, and WNOX Knoxville.
- 1990s
National Consulting — Bill Hennes & Associates
As radio consolidated, Bill founded Bill Hennes & Associates, advising stations across Top-40, Country, and Classic Hits formats. He also held a leadership role with Westwood One, shaping national programming initiatives.
- Today
Today's Hottest Hits — Radio for a New Era
Rather than stepping back, Bill embraced digital broadcasting and launched Today's Hottest Hits — a digital radio network built on the same principles that made the legendary stations great. The beat never stops.
What We Stand For
The values that guide every broadcast
Music First
Every programming decision starts with the music. Great tracks are not just content — they are memory. That philosophy has guided Bill Hennes for more than six decades.
Listener-Driven
Radio's only job is to serve its audience. Every rotation, every show, every format decision is made with the listener in mind — not trends, not algorithms.
Disciplined Execution
Great radio is never accidental. Tight playlists, consistent pacing, strong identity — the fundamentals that made CKLW legendary are the same ones that drive THH.
Embracing the Future
Bill never stood still. From AM Top-40 to digital streaming, the medium changes but the mission doesn't. Today's Hottest Hits carries radio's core truth into whatever comes next.
